Overview: MAP is an eight-month mentorship program connecting high school students (grades 10–12) in San Diego County with UCSD faculty and researchers across a wide range of disciplines. Students meet one-on-one with a mentor to explore research interests, academic topics, or career pathways through readings, discussions, or lab visits.
Key Information:
Location: UC San Diego (main campus, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, or UCSD Medical Center)
Modality: Hybrid (in-person meetings with flexible scheduling)
Compensation: Unpaid, but mentorship includes access to university labs and faculty
Estimated Time Commitment: 2–4 hours per week, October 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026
Eligibility Requirements:
Open to San Diego County high school students in grades 10–12
Must be highly motivated and interested in academic/research exploration (not for tutoring or general academic help)
Students may apply with or without a project idea
$1000 fee for research-based mentorships (fee waived for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch or request financial aid)
Transportation support (MTS ComPASS card) available for selected students
